Simplification of Surface Data
Quadric error metric introduced by Michael Garland and a modified qslim algorithm is used for simplification, in the context of surface data. This method is now implemented in MeshKit using MOAB.
Initial triangles are positively oriented in the plane, and an additional constraint is introduced as a penalty in the decimation algorithm, to avoid negatively oriented triangles. This ensures that the surface of the glacier still has a proper representation after decimation.
In this example, the surface is decimated to 20000 triangles.
