Surface Elevation Data
Primary source of data for the surface of Jakobshavn glacier is CReSIS https://www.cresis.ku.edu/data/greenland
The set of points with elevation data is triangulated in plane with Triangle
A rendered surface is shown in VisIt, color corresponding to surface elevation. This initial model has ~5 million points and ~10 million triangles.
A zoomed in portion shows the resolution of the initial mesh
Bed Elevation below the glacier is obtained also from the CReSIS site, in long/lat coordinates. GDAL package is used to convert to Universal Transverse Mercator coordinates (zone UTM 22N ).
The ice occupies a volume between the bed and the surface.
